We had another lockdown birthday at The Shelley. Eileen had a fabulous lemon drizzle cake and celebrated in style with all the staff and residents and also while social distancing with her family. They were thankful to come and wish her a happy birthday from outside. Eileen had lots of gorgeous flowers and a fabulous card amongst other presents.

With the warm weather promising to come to an end this weekend, some residents are taking advantage of a garden walk. The hairdressers no longer come to us during lockdown but we are lucky to have two qualified hairdresser/carers on our team who are keeping the residents tidy and all free of charge. We celebrated Mary's birthday with her. This incredible lady turned 99. To celebrate this special day there was a lot of cake (flavour requested by Mary), presents and a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday. We have also celebrated Eileen Birthday with her. No, we did not 'just change the name on the cake' the ladies have similar tastes and they were enjoyed by everyone! |
We held a food and wine tasting session. It was well attended as usual and we tried some unusual savouries including beetroot falafel with red peppers and chilli, cornichons and an extra mature cheddar. The sweet options included a very dark chocolate with raspberries and rice cakes with a yoghurt coating. We also liked the less known blueberry white tea which was really refreshing |
Such a lovely day with the residents today. After finishing the crossword challenge in record time Sam gave a talk about Italy. We then had a quiz on the beautiful country and covered popular landmarks, history, famous Italians and popular food finishing with an outstanding clip of Luciano Pavarotti singing us to tea and cake o'clock. |
Mary Fivey 's art classes go from strength to strength with more and more pupils. It was a packed house for our Buddy Holly tribute act, he was absolutely incredible. With such a great voice and performance he really made us feel as if we were at a Buddy Holly concert from years ago. Phoebe the cutest dog in Sussex (don't tell the others) came to visit bringing all the doggy goodness that brightens up everyone’s day. JohnLawrenson came to give an interesting comedy talk on the history and urban myths of Sussex. Skittles with Nick is always a fantastic game. A lot of concentration, laughter and best bowling moves with Sheila emerging as roaring champion by quite some margin. |
We welcomed Geoffrey James baritone singer today. He wowed us with hits from Perry Como, Dean Martin and Jim Reeves. We had a lovely sing along bringing back memories of our youth. Gorgeous bright spring flowers on what was a rather dull day outside. We love gardening club and look forward to see what Lisa and Jenny bring to show us. Friday morning card club at The Shelley for our non-gardeners. They soon pounce on you if they suspect you are cheating |
The Year of the Rat has arrived. We had a visit from a friendly Chinese Dragon to celebrate the begining of the Chinese New Year celebrations. In the evening Pete McShelley was in the house for Burns Night for a night of poetry, whiskey, haggis and bad Scottish accents. Slàinte mhath agus Oidhche Bhlas Burns. |
We love our Friday mornings at The Shelley. Lisa and Jenny brought some beautiful spring specimens including the first snowdrops to show their heads. We potted up our daffodils and can’t wait to see them bloom. For those that don’t have green fingers our card sharps got together for a game of 7’s. A thriving social morning.
